The problem
What makes it hard
A case officer has to work inside the protected environment from an office that is not that environment. The computer must not stand where the person sits.
The mistake is believing the fiber link is itself a security boundary. It is not — it is galvanically isolated and radiation-quiet, but it carries USB 2.0 and TOSLINK in both directions.

The link carries USB and two-way audio, which moves the security boundary away from where people assume it is.
