The problem
What makes it hard
The computers must not stand in the control room — heat, noise, fire compartmentation, or a requirement that the computing part survive a fire in the room.
The penetration is not sealed to the fire requirement. And somebody runs an extra USB extension through the same penetration “because the hole is already there”.

The link carries USB and two-way audio, which moves the security boundary away from where people assume it is.
