How it works
A diode removes the logical return path. Fiber removes the electrical one. The two properties reinforce each other, and this is the only environment where the absence of an electrical signature is the main argument rather than a side effect.
Why both are needed
A diode over copper still has a conductor crossing the boundary, and a conductor carries emissions whether or not it carries data. Fiber alone still allows a bidirectional protocol. Neither property substitutes for the other.
What still crosses
The mains supply. It crosses as copper in every installation, and it is the path a filter exists to handle.
