How it works
A client in a protected domain drives a display in a shared room through an HDMI diode. Picture and sound pass. DDC, CEC, ARC and HEC do not.
Why the cable needs a diode at all
HDMI is not one-way. DDC is a two-way I²C bus carrying EDID and HDCP key exchange; CEC is an addressed control bus; ARC carries audio backwards. A shared display is therefore a shared, writable node between every domain that has ever been connected to it.
The limit worth stating
The diode governs the video path. It does not govern a touch panel’s USB cable, the room’s acoustics, or a camera. Those are separate decisions and they have to be made separately.
